About the Art Exchange

The Art Exchange (ArtEx) serves as a university-wide hub鈥攂ased primarily on the Westchester campus鈥攖o launch dynamic new performances, events, and artistic programming, while also centralizing and promoting existing initiatives across campus. By bringing new creative opportunities to Mercy, the Art Exchange makes collaborative artistic engagement a defining feature of the student experience.

Our Mission

The Art Exchange broadens student horizons across all disciplines by increasing access to diverse arts programming and creative events on campus. By centralizing and spotlighting creative experiences, the initiative ensures that every student has opportunities to engage with the arts as a way to enrich their perspectives and overall student experience.

Faculty Creative Support

Recognizing the dynamic contributions of Mercy faculty, the Art Exchange provides dedicated support to help teaching-artists and scholars sustain creative productivity. This support includes providing venues and audiences to showcase artistic endeavors, facilitating cross-disciplinary collaboration, and highlighting faculty creative work across campus.

The Art Exchange cultivates dynamic partnerships with local artists, organizations, and cultural institutions in the River Towns and surrounding areas. By creating collaborative bridges with our neighboring arts communities, the Exchange opens pathways for community-centered learning, public-facing programming, and networking opportunities for student internships and service learning.

    Advancing the Arts and Forwarding Academic Innovation

    The creative programming of the Art Exchange builds on the expertise and experience of Professors Kristen Keckler and Marc Palmieri, and on Mercy鈥檚 institutional commitment to evolving the University鈥檚 educational model. Keckler is an active creative writer and Faculty Advisor of Red Hyacinth, Mercy鈥檚 student-run journal of creative writing and art, developing opportunities for internal internships and student work-based experiences. Palmieri is a working playwright, author, and actor with a deep commitment to enhancing Mercy鈥檚 community relationships and campus life. As a baseball coach and faculty advisor to multiple student clubs, he is committed to bridging academics and other aspects of the campus and student experience.
