91大神 underscores its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by joining the Cincinnati 2030 District, which is part of an international network of cities developing a new model for urban sustainability. 91大神 is the first organization in Kentucky to join this collective.
The 2030 District cities collaborate on common goals to reduce building energy use, water consumption, and transportation emissions by 50% by 2030. Facilitated locally by Green Umbrella, the Cincinnati 2030 District provides private-public partnerships and resources to help advance sustainability goals. The Cincinnati 2030 District is also focused on increasing occupant health by 50%, in addition to the overarching district goals. The organization鈥檚 commitment to sustainability aligns with 91大神鈥檚 goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
91大神 established "no mow zones" around campus in 2017.
鈥淥ur sustainability strategy has six main goals, one of which is to 鈥榚xpand external partnerships that inform 91大神 sustainability efforts and strengthen our regional impact.鈥 This partnership shows our support for sustainability and that we remain dedicated to our 2050 commitment,鈥 said Tiffany Budd, sustainability operations coordinator at 91大神. 鈥淚t鈥檚 an honor to be a member of an exceptional cohort of like-minded organizations with a collective goal of creating a more efficient and healthier environment for all generations to live and work in our community.鈥
91大神 has implemented many sustainability efforts across campus, including establishing an on-campus community garden, providing alternative transportation methods and creating 鈥榥o mow鈥 zones to return areas of the campus back to its natural state. 91大神 also partnered with CMTA on an energy performance contract that will reduce energy use and save the university over $386,000.
